Set Up a Web Folder on Windows XP

myfiles@bc

NOTE: Web Folders are currently available when using Windows XP or earlier. If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use WebDrive as an alternative to Web Folders.

In addition to working with files through a web browser, you can also create a web folder on your Windows computer. This allows you to easily drag files into a folder on your desktop that represents your space on the MyFiles@bc server.

If you create a web folder on your Windows computer for your MyFiles@bc space, you can:

  • Use MyFiles@bc files and folders just like local files and folders on your computer. Save files, open files, and delete files to and from your MyFiles@bc web folder through most applications, such as Word or Excel, just as you would do with files or folders on your computer - instead you are saving to your MyFiles@bc space.
  • Drag and drop files or cut and paste them directly into your MyFiles@bc web folder within Windows.

Note: You cannot set up sharing of files or folders through the web folder. If you want to share files or folders, learn how to use the web application to set up sharing.

Creating a web folder to your MyFiles@bc space (the simple method)

The easiest way to create a web folder to your MyFiles@bc space is by using Internet Explorer and following the simple set up steps below. Once your web folder is created, you can use any supported web browser, to use your MyFiles@bc account. If you do not have Internet Explorer or you have problems with the simple set up steps below, you can use this alternative method to create your web folder. If you are using a Mac, see how to create a web folder using Mac OS X.

Important: For security reasons, we do not recommend creating a web folder for your MyFiles@bc space if you are on a shared or public computer.
