What you Need to do on your Windows Computer

when you leave boston college

After graduating, you should complete the following steps:

Step 1: If you acquired these from Boston College, transfer ownership of your Microsoft Office and Windows operating system

Upon graduation, Microsoft and Boston College transfer ownership of your Microsoft Office Suite (Mac and Windows versions) and Windows (7, Vista, or XP) operating system to you. Please print this page and keep it in your records as proof of ownership: Student Campus Agreement BC sign-in required (BC sign-in required)

Step 2: If you acquired these from Boston College, uninstall some programs from your laptop

Some of the software that was preloaded on your computer (or that you downloaded from BC) was installed under student licensing agreements, administered by the University. Since you are no longer a student, you should now remove the following software from your laptop in accordance with the respective manufacturer’s terms and conditions.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader*
  • RealPlayer*
  • Winamp*

* Note: You can reinstall these free programs under your own personal account, which are available from www.versiontracker.com.

To uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader, RealPlayer, and Winamp:

  1. Login to your computer as an Administrator.
  2. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
  3. On the View menu, click Go To, then click Control Panel.
  4. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
  5. To uninstall a program, select the program on the list, then click Uninstall.

Step 4: Purchase anti-virus protection

Internet viruses are running rampant! If you are online, your computer should not be left unprotected for any length of time. Be sure to get your own anti-virus software and install it as soon as you have un-installed your BC McAfee anti-virus software. You can contact McAfee directly to get a new subscription at: www.mcafee.com/us.
