This article describes how to configure Macromedia Dreamweaver to connect and edit Boston College websites.
- Create a new folder on your hard drive where you will store all of your web files.
- Give the folder a meaningful name such as webwork or deptsite.
- Remember where you put the new folder because you will need to find it during the configuration process.
- Launch Dreamweaver on your computer.
- From the Dreamweaver toolbar, select Site > New Site...
- You will now see the Site Definition window. Click on the Remember where you put the new folder because you will need to find it during the configuration process. tab.
- Select Local Info from the left side categories.
- In the Site Name field, type in a descriptive name such as webdev or webwork.
- In the Local Root Folder field, click on the folder icon. Locate the folder you created on your hard drive in the first step of this tutorial.
- Select Remote Info from the left side categories.
- From the Access drop down menu, select FTP.
- In the FTP Host field, type in www.bc.edu.
- In the Host Directory field type /usr/eaglenet/www/data/path/, where path is the unique path of your web site.
- In the Login field, type your BC username in lowercase.
- In the Password field, do not type your password for security purposes.
- Do not select the Use Passive FTP or Use Firewall options.
- Click OK when finished.
- A Dreamweaver dialog box may appear that says "the initial site cache is now being created..."
- Click OK. This saves your changes and closes the Site Definition Window.
