BCPost: Moderate messages
boston college's mailing list service
Owners and moderators will receive copies of email message that require moderation with links and directives on how to approve or decline. Owner's posts and moderator's posts are pre-approved. Note: if you are a list owner, you may want to add moderators to help you moderate posts. Learn how.
- Access http://listserv.bc.edu and log in to the BCPost mailing list service.
- Click on the Owner link for the list you want to work with.
After you log in, the Your Lists menu box located on the right side of your screen (Figure 1), will display the list name for each of the lists that you either own or subscribe to. If you are the list owner, “(Owner)” will display after the list’s name.

Moderating Messages

- Following the list of messages are three buttons. Click on one of the buttons (described below). Checkboxes before each listed message, can be used to moderate multiple messages at once.

Button: |
Description: | |
|
Distribute |
To approve the message and distribute it to the list's subscribers, click this button. The message will be sent to the list shortly and will appear exactly as the sender originally sent it.
|
Reject Silently |
To decline the message without informing the owner of their message being declined, click this button. The messsage will not be sent to the list and the original sender will receive no notification of the message's rejection. If a piece of spam has made it through to your list somehow, use this option to reduce the likelihood of further spam coming from that address to this list.
|
Reject and Notify Sender |
To decline the message and let the sender know that their message was rejected, use this button. Unfortunately you won't have an opportunity to let the sender know why their message was rejected, so you might want to follow this up with a normal email directly to them with some details. |
