Apple Address Book

When using Mail with Exchange, all email addresses for faculty, staff, and students are easily accessible through the Address Book. When you type a faculty, staff, or student’s name in one of the address fields (To, Cc, or Bcc), Mail checks to see if it can find the person’s name in the BC Directory. If it finds the name, it will highlight it in a light blue bubble. If it cannot find the name, check the spelling and try again or search for the person in the BC Directory using Address Book. To search the BC Directory:

  1. Click Address in the New Message window.
  2. Select All Directories.

  3. In the search box, type the first, last, or partial name of the person for whom you are searching.

Matches for your search appear beneath the search box.

In addition to the BC Directory, the Address Book also allows you to store personal addresses. Person Address Books are indicated with a brown book icon: figure 7 . You can store information for people external to BC (people that don’t have an @bc.edu email address) in these address books. Examples of whom you might put in your personal Address Books include vendors, contractors, and colleagues at other institutions. When you type a contact’s name in the To, Cc, or Bcc field, iCal will check to see if it matches an address in your personal Address Books after it checks the BC Directory. You should never store @bc.edu email addresses in your personal Address Books since this will conflict with the BC Directory and disable Exchange-specific features for messages you address to that member of the BC community.
