The friendly faces of The Office of
International Students and Scholars (OISS)

Have you ever walked into the Murray Graduate Student Center and heard another language being spoken? Did you know that 11% of all graduate students are international representing over 70 countries around the world? Do you know that there is an office on campus devoted specifically to international students? The Office of International Students and Scholars (or OISS), located in Maloney Hall 249, provides advice, services and programs to approximately 1600 international students (undergraduate, graduate and exchange), faculty, and scholars at Boston College. In addition to immigration advising and administration, they also organize many programs to support the academic and personal needs of international students, as well as facilitating their integration into the wider BC community.

Many of the OISS programs are also open to ALL graduate students. For example, you can be a Conversation Partner to a graduate international student and help he/she improve his/her English language and speaking skills.  You could also attend a weekly discussion series for graduate international students held every Friday at noon, cosponsored by the Office of Graduate Student Life and the Connors Family Learning Center, and help bring an American perspective to the conversation. Additionally, the OISS organizes International Education Week in early November which will include over 40 academic, social and cultural events and are open to the entire campus, including graduate students. And finally the OISS works closely with the Graduate International Students Association to provide a variety of programs and services to this population.

If you would like to see the statistics on international students and scholars including where they are from and what they are studying, or learn more about any of these OISS programs, please visit their website at bc.edu/oiss
