Academic Honors and Awards

Academic honors printed in the Commencement program are based on averages at the end of the second semester, 2013. The summa cum laude is awarded to the top 4.5 percent of the graduating class, magna cum laude to the next 9.5 percent and cum laude to the next 15 percent. Academic honors are not calculated for graduate students.
Students in the College of Arts and Sciences will be notified by the end of April and students in the Carroll School of Management and the Lynch School of Education will be notified in early May if they will be receiving a special award at the Sunday ceremonies. Phi Beta Kappa inductees will also be notified at this time. The other Schools present special awards at the diploma ceremonies on Monday.
