Commencement Announcements:

The 136th Commencement of Boston College was held on Monday, May 21, 2012 in Alumni Stadium.

Individual School and College Diploma Ceremonies were held at various sites on campus following the conclusion of the Main Commencement Ceremony.

2012 Commencement Speaker and Honorary Degree Recipients

Award winning television journalist Robert Woodruff addressed the Boston College Class of 2012 at the 136th Commencement Ceremony on Monday, May 21. Woodruff made national headlines after sustaining a traumatic brain injury while reporting on the United States War in Iraq.

Woodruff received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University at the ceremony.

In addition to the honorary degree awarded to Woodruff, the University will recognize four other guests with honorary degrees.

Joseph A. Appleyard, S.J., BC ’53, former vice president for University Mission and Ministry and now executive assistant for the New England Province of the Society of Jesus, received a Doctor of Humane Letters.

Former BC football assistant coach and current chairman of Intuit, Inc., Bill Campbell, received a Doctor of Business Administration.

Navyn Salem, BC ’94, who founded a nonprofit that manufactures food for preventing malnutrition, received a Doctor of Social Science.

Finally, Liz Walker, an award-winning TV news anchor and ordained minister who focuses on international education, received a Doctor of Humane Letters.

Commencement Day

University Commencement
9:15 a.m. - Academic Procession
10:00 a.m. - Main Ceremony

Alumni Stadium

There is open seating, no limit to the number of guests and no tickets necessary

12:00 p.m.- Individual School/College Diploma Ceremonies   
The main ceremony will be followed immediately by Individual School/College Diploma Ceremonies which are held at separate sites for each School. 

Commencement Exercises are a two-part ceremony. The University Commencement (main ceremony) will start with the procession at 9:15 a.m. followed by the ceremony at 10:00 a.m. It is followed immediately by Individual School and College Diploma Ceremonies around 12:00 noon which are completed by 2:00 p.m. The University Commencement is attended by all graduates. The President addresses the graduates, confers honorary degrees, and, through student representatives, confers the appropriate degrees on all graduates. The Commencement Speaker delivers the Commencement address. Diplomas are distributed to graduates at the Diploma Ceremonies.
