Assistant Director Training Program - Directors Guild

  • The mission of the Directors Guild – Producer Training Plan is to provide motion picture and television industry training as directed by the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers and the Directors Guild of America.
  • Designed to provide opportunities for a limited number of individuals to become Assistant Directors of motion pictures.
  • This is a two year program consisting of up to 350 days of on-the job training combined with seminars and special assignments. A rotation system places Trainees on the sets of various features, television series and commercials shooting primarily in the New York City vicinity.
  • Must have certification of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college.

The American Prospect Writing Fellowship

  • The American Prospect is a national, bimonthly magazine that focuses on politics, policy and culture. The magazine offers six yearlong grants of $20,000 each to writers under 30 who exhibit the drive and motivation to become critical journalists and public intellectuals.
  • Throughout the year, participants will create two to four articles for The American Prospect and two to four articles for other national magazines.

Chesterfield Fellowship - Writers Film Project - NOTE: This project is currently on hiatus.

  • The Writers Film Project offers fiction, theatre, and film writers the opportunity to begin a career in screenwriting. Up to five writers will be chosen to participate, and each will receive a stipend to cover his or her living expenses.
  • The Writer's Film Project is one of the most popular and prestigious screenwriting fellowships in the United States. The WFP was originated by Chesterfield at Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.
  • Eligibility Requirements: There are no strict eligibility requirements for the Writer's Film Project. Fiction, theater, and film writers may apply. There are no age or academic requirements, and applicants need not be affiliated

The Delay the Real World Fellowship

  • Sponsored by Running Press Publishers, is a $3,000 award for whoever proposes the most gutsy and worthwhile adventure. The winner could be anything from a health educator in Thailand, to a ski instructor in Switzerland, to an organic farmer in New Mexico. The most crucial pre-requisite is a passion for something that the 9-5 grind doesn't offer.

Eric Breindel College and University Journalism Award

  • Internship of student's choice at either Fox News Channel, the New York Post, or the Washington Post.
  • $10,000 cash prize.

Alfred Fleishman Diversity Fellowship

  • Fellowships are designed to attract college seniors, recent graduates and graduate students from ethnically diverse backgrounds, who are interested in a career in integrated communications.
  • Six- to twelve-month paid professional development training and on-the-job mentoring.
  • Company benefits such as medical, life insurance and vacation are included
  • Fellows will be given strong consideration for full-time positions with Fleishman-Hillard

Gannett Co., Inc. Talent Development Program

  • The TDP provides college graduates with the opportunity to begin a career with the nation’s largest print, broadcast and digital information company. Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center

  • The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center awards stipends to historians in the fields of art, architecture & design, literature, music, and photography and to museum or other professionals who wish to have or extend curatorial experience.
  • Stipends are awarded to (a) doctoral candidates who have fulfilled all preliminary requirements for the Ph.D. and are under the direction of a faculty member from their own institution and (b) scholars who hold a doctorate, have distinguished themselves in their field, and wish to pursue research.

The Hearst Broadcast News Fellowship

  • Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. conducts on the job training program in broadcast journalism for those who are minorities or disadvantaged and who are minorities who have encountered substantial difficulties in gaining access to broadcast careers as a result.
  • Applicants must have at least a BA or BS degree and proven interest in broadcast journalism.
  • A transcript and three letters of recommendation are required as well as a statement detailing why the applicant chose to pursue broadcast journalism and why they deserve the fellowship.

The Tim Russert Fellowship

  • The Tim Russert Fellowship is a one-year, paid position in the NBC News Washington, D.C. bureau.
  • The fellow will work on a rotational basis in key areas of the bureau including assignments on "Meet the Press" and with the NBC News Political Unit.
  • Responsibilities will include assisting talent and producers, participating in new shoots, and story research.
  • The goal is to give one motivated journalist the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned NBC News staff members and truly experience a yearlong "boot camp" in political journalism.
  • Application requirements: graduating senior, application available from March 23 through April 10.
