Brass Class

Tuesdays, 4:30-5:15 p.m.,
during Spring semester

The Brass cross-training class is intended to provide instruction for current Bands Program members who wish to cross-train from a woodwind or percussion instrument to the brass family. This is an invaluable asset to the program, providing flexibility in instrumentation in all other ensembles. Members come once a week to learn a new skill, benefiting not only their own musicality but also the university as a whole.

Leadership Training Class

The Leadership Training Class is required of all Marching Band executive board members-elect and Marching Band Section Leaders. David Healey designed this four-session course and currently teaches it as well.

In the four sessions, students discuss theories of leadership and successful leadership strategies, and they roleplay through the solutions of several simulated real-life leadership challenges. The students emerge with a greater understanding of the leadership structure within the Bands Program and the university at large, and are much better equipped to handle conflict as both leaders and members of all groups.

This class occurs during Senior Week at the conclusion of the academic year.
