BC Theatre comes in many forms. Here at the Dramatics Society Showcase, students perform original, never-before-produced plays written by fellow BC students.
Children also are encouraged to enjoy theater at the BC Arts Festival. In 2010, students put on an adaptation of the popular Rob Reiner film, "The Princess Bride." Here, the shrieking eels "swim" across stage.
Theater is a very dramatic part of every BC Arts Festival, and the performance of The Threepenny Opera at the 2010 Festival was no different. Based on John Gay's 18th century Beggar's Opera, the musical by Bertolt Brecht is set in Victorian England's Soho district. With Kurt Weill's music, which was one of the earliest and most successful attempt to introduce jazz into the theater, it became a popular hit and was just as much fun at Robsham Theater. The photos below illustrate the work students put in to acting, costuming, lighting, and stage production.
