University President William P. Leahy, S.J., and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences David Quigley presented the awards. The brief ceremony was followed by an open reception and celebration with entertainment and hors d’oeuvres.
2012 Alumni Award
Tony Taccone '72 - Tony Taccone is artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where he has staged more than 35 shows – including world premieres by Culture Clash, Rinde Eckert, David Edgar, Danny Hoch, Geoff Hoyle, Quincy Long, Itamar Moses, and Lemony Snicket. Taccone took two shows from Berkeley Rep to Broadway: Sarah Jones’ Tony Award-winning Bridge & Tunnel and Carrie Fisher’s Wishful Drinking. He commissioned Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, co-directed its world premiere, and has collaborated with Kushner on seven projects including Brundibar and Tiny Kushner. Two of Taccone’s recent shows transferred to London, and two scripts that he penned are having their premieres this year.
2012 Faculty Award
Michael Noone - The Chair of the Music Department, Noone founded Ensemble Plus Ultra in 2001. In 2011, the group released a boxed set of ten CDs of sacred music by the Spanish Renaissance priest-composer Tomás Luis de Victoria in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the composer's death. The collection has been nominated for an Early Music Gramophone Award (2012).
