Chuck Hogan, '89
Chuck Hogan is the New York Times bestselling author of five acclaimed novels, including Prince of Thieves, which was awarded the Hammett Prize for "literary excellence in the field of crime writing," and was adapted into the 2010 hit film The Town, directed by Ben Affleck. His screenplay adaptation of his most recent novel Devils in Exile is in development at Universal Pictures. He is also the Executive Producer of The Strain, a television series airing on FX beginning in June, 2014, based upon the internationally bestselling trilogy he co-authored with Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim). His non-fiction has appeared in The New York Times and ESPN The Magazine, and his short fiction has twice been anthologized in The Best American Mystery Stories annual.
Tim Lemire, '89
Tim has done pretty much everything you can possibly do with an English major: he's been an English teacher, a newspaper editor, a writer for corporate America, and a freelance editor. He's written for CVS, Hasbro, and Fidelity, and he's the author of seven books -- including the book that grew out of BC's Career Night, I'm An English Major -- Now What? (Writer's Digest Books, 2006). He also graduated from the University of Michigan's MFA program in creative writing.
Zach Bubolo, '06
VP Business Affairs, New York Picture Company
After graduating from Boston College, Zach worked as an actor in Boston. He worked at Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, The Huntington Theater Company, and Reagle Music Theater. He then moved to New York City and had a small recurring role on Guiding Light. He moved back to the Boston area to earn his MFA in Acting from Harvard/ A.R.T. Since then, he has appeared on stage in Hamlet and Cosi, and in All My Children and Grand Theft Auto V. Last year, Zach, along with two other Boston College alumni, co-founded a media production company, The New York Picture Company. NYPC creates and produces branded content and original comedic work. Zach also works for the Thomas J. Watson Foundation as their Program Coordinator advising and mentoring the college aged Watson Fellows. He lives in Queens, NY with his fiancée, Sarah Jadin.
Tim Davis, '02
President, The Boston New Music Initiative
Tim earned a doctorate in composition from the University of Iowa, after previously earning degrees from the University of Massachusetts and Boston College. He has studied with Bruce MacCombie, David Gompper, Lawrence Fritts, Thomas Oboe Lee, and Salvatore Macchia. Reflecting his long-standing commitment to furthering the careers of composers and musicians, Tim is the founder and president of The Boston New Music Initiative, Inc. (BNMI). He serves as a judge for a variety of composition contests and competitions, including BNMI, PARMA Recordings, ensemble mise-en, and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Tim teaches composition privately, and resides in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with his wife, soprano Erin M. Smith
In recent years, the music of Tim Davis has been performed throughout New England by ensembles such as the Bay Colony Brass, The Boston New Music Initiative, the Seraphim Singers, Oure Pleasure Singers, and Quinta Esencia; at conferences and festivals such as the PARMA/SCI Music Festival, the Midwest Composers’ Symposia, and the Denison New Music Festival; and on college campuses throughout the United States. Recent collaborations and commissions include works for the Bay Colony Brass, Flageolet (Flagstaff New Music), Erasable Color, the International Horn Society, and The Boston New Music Initiative.
Alison Davitt, '07
Alison graduated Boston College in 2007 with a B.S. in Biology. She immediately accepted a position at Brigham and Women's Hospital working in a transplant laboratory. During her years at BWH, Alison learned many things about herself, but most importantly, that a laboratory position was not fulfilling enough for the remainder of her career. The M.A. in Expressive Therapy and Mental Health Counseling at Lesley University provided a degree that blended Alison’s musical talents with a genuine desire to help people. Upon graduating from Lesley University in May of 2013, Alison became a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She is currently a full time Clinician at the Merrimack Revocation Program in Lowell, MA, working with adolescents in the juvenile court system. Alison is both committed to her clinical work and grateful for her continual opportunities to combine Music Therapy technique with general counseling practice in a variety of populations.
Marc Franklin, '12
Stage Manager, Company One Theater
Shortly after graduating from Boston College in 2012 with a BA in Theatre and English, Marc Franklin began working as a market research analyst for the Boston Children's Hospital full time and freelance stage managing. Over the past year and a half, he has worked for the SpeakEasy Theater Company, the Bridge Repertory Theater, The Brown Box Theater Project, and the Company One Theater. Marc is also currently an artistic associate for the Bridge Repertory Theater, working as the director of social media and multimedia. In addition, Marc is also an actor, director, and freelance photographer.
Kevin Harrington, '03
Creator/Producer, GEEK WEEK Comedy & Geek Comedy Night
Kevin Harrington is an actor, comedian, and producer based in Cambridge, MA. He has studied and performed improv comedy at Improv Asylum and Improv Boston theaters, most recently with the improvised musical group BUMP.
Kevin was a recurring cast member on the popular Boston reality sitcom webseries "Quiet Desperation" during its initial season (http://quietd.com/).
Kevin also produces an annual geek-themed comedy festival in Boston known as GEEK WEEK Boston, which has been operating since 2007. In addition to GEEK WEEK, he is the creator and host of Geek Comedy Night, a monthly geek-themed comedy variety show at Comicazi comics in Somerville, MA (http://geekweekcomedy.com/).
Emily Rose Walsh, '07
Freelance Singer (Soprano); Executive Assistant, The Bridgespan Group
Coloratura soprano Emily Rose Walsh graduated from Boston College in 2007 and received her Master's Degree in Voice Performance from the Longy School of Music in 2011. Originally from West Hartford, Connecticut, she currently studies with Carol Mastrodomenico and is pursuing careers in performance and nonprofit administration. She appeared in Barbara Gawlick's 2011 production of "The Magic Flute" at Boston College as the Queen of the Night, and has also appeared in scenes as Marie in "Daughter of the Regiment" and Fiametta in "The Gondoliers." An aspiring recitalist and oratorio soloist, her artistic vision is heavily influenced by her experience working with Charles Ansbacher, who devoted his career to public outreach on behalf of classical music. She lives in Boston's South End with her husband, fellow BC alumnus Adam Kinson.
Jane Conway Caspe ’83
Jane graduated from BC in 1983 with a BA in Psychology. During her junior year she started working as a model for runway, television and advertising. This sparked her interest in fashion and design and she has now been working in the Fashion Industry for the past 30 years.
Currently, Jane is on the Board of Trustees at the School of Fashion Design, and works as a representative and speaker for the school. She is also on the Board of Directors at Fashion Group International, and organizes many fashion events, including Boston Fashion Week.
Jane owns two fashion-related businesses: ACK Originals and The Nantucket Doll Collection Inc., and is an executive manager and partner at Wildflower Concierge of Nantucket. She also co-authored a book, The Nantucket Diet, published by Random House in 2005.
Philip Gilpin, Jr, '03
Executive Director, ITVFest
Philip Gilpin, Jr. is a Boston-area native and Boston College alum, class of 2003, with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics. After leaving BC, he headed west and began a career in entertainment working as a business affairs analyst at HBO until 2008. During that time, Philip was a guest at the 1st Annual ITVFest in 2006 where he met the festival’s creators.
When the opportunity came up in 2012 to potentially move ITVFest to Vermont, Philip seized the opportunity, raised the necessary funds, and took over the reigns of the festival. In September of 2013, the 8th Annual ITVFest was held in Dover, Vermont and was so well received by all involved that the festival is now scheduled to stay in Dover through at least 2017.
Mark Haddad, '87
Principal, Haddad Hakansson LLC, Interior Design
Mark is Principal of Haddad Hakansson, LLC, a full-service interior design firm based in Boston, MA, specializing in kitchen and bath design as well as full home renovation. A Massachusetts native, Mark received his M.Ed. in Creative Arts Education from Lesley University and earned certification as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer from the National Kitchen & Bath Association. Prior to beginning his own business in 2001, Mark worked as a music teacher and school administrator as well as a vocalist and musical director throughout the Boston area. Currently, he is the choir director at The Church of St. John of Damascus in Dedham and is on the faculty at Boston Architectural College in the Kitchen and Bath Design Certification Program.
Christopher Huang, '07
Christopher is a freelance photographer doing creative portraiture, headshots, weddings, events, and performing arts. He is often on campus photographing events and portraits, as Boston College was his first major client. His work can be seen at http://christopherhuang.com. Maureen Donovan, '78
Deputy Director, Harvard Art Museums
Maureen Donovan is currently Deputy Director of the Harvard Art Museums, a position she has occupied since 2010. Prior to becoming Deputy Director, she occupied several positions in registration, collections management, and exhibitions management, becoming the Director of Collections Management in 2001. The Harvard Art Museums have a collection of over 250,000 works of art and are in the midst of an extensive renovation and expansion of the museum designed by Renzo Piano and scheduled to reopen to the public in the fall of 2014.
Micaela Lade, '06
Assistant Buyer, Design Within Reach
Micaela was born & raised in New Jersey before attending Boston College, from which she graduated in 2006 after completing a year abroad in Paris. At BC, she majored in French and minored in Art History, and knew she wanted to pursue a career in the arts. Moving to New York after college, she has lived there ever since, and worked for one year at New York magazine before landing a job at the New York office of Phaidon Press, the art publisher based in London. As a senior at BC, she made a list of dream companies to work for, and Phaidon was actually one of them!
Michaela worked at Phaidon for five years, starting as a Sales Assistant and working up to the level of Sales Manager. In early 2012 she left Phaidon for a job on the merchandising team at Design Within Reach, the modern furniture retailer. "My job at DWR is totally different from what I envisioned in 2006," Micahela says. "But I love it even more than my old job -- I get to work with designers of all ages to help them bring their designs to market."
Andrew Padilla, '01
Creative Services Manager, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Andrew's professional experience has been fueled by opportunities to use his creativity to help good organizations flourish. He has a marketing background, but marketing for the sake of marketing was never attractive. What makes a job fun and rewarding is working with good people to advance a meaningful cause.
As an undergrad, Andrew considered what field might allow him to be visually creative, use his writing skills, do something useful, have fun—and, of course, pay the bills. Creative marketing and graphic design proved to be a good balance. Andrew has now worked in a variety of organizations, first starting out at a small marketing firm, and then moving on to a variety of non-profits. Working with people from all walks of life—from CEOs and elected officials to high school dropouts— he has benefited in ways that he'd never expected.
Growing up in Santa Fe, NM, Andrew was born into an artistic and culturally rich environment, surrounded by natural inspiration. He came to Boston seeking new experiences and perspectives. More than sixteen years later, he has transplanted himself here for the foreseeable future.
Carolyn Rock, '05
Administration Manager, Boston Ballet School, Arts Administration
Carolyn graduated with a major in History and minor in International Studies. Her interest in arts administration began at BC and continued to grow as she took an increasingly active role in the Arts Council. Currently, Carolyn is the Administration Manager for Boston Ballet School, ensuring the highest quality arts education for over 4,000 students each year in North America's largest ballet school.
