Introducing the C21 Center's 2010-2011 yearlong theme...

The roles of persons in the Church community are changing and developing in new directions.  Since the second Vatican Council there has been ongoing discussion about what is essential to the role of ordained ministers.  Particularly in recent decades the self-understanding of the laity and the part they take in Church life has been developing energetically.   Throughout this same period of time the roles, self-understanding, and assessment of religious life in the Church has been a focus of continued interest.

Whether applauded or engendering concern, this period of change and development in the roles of clergy, laity, and religious, and in their relationship with one another is of profound importance for the present and future of the Church.  During the academic year 2010 – 2011, the Church in the 21st Century Center will seek to encourage a deepening dialogue and mature consideration of these developments and their meaning.
