Economic Regeneration in Urban Centers
Boston, MA & Pittsburgh, PA: May 24 - June 3, 2011
The cities of Boston and Pittsburgh hosted a group of fourteen individuals from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for a ten-day study-visit. The participants included business leaders, business strategists, government policymakers, entrepreneurs, and academics from Ireland and from Northern Ireland. The program’s seminars and visits engaged the participants in a discussion with their American counterparts that examined the role that small business development, coporate incentive schemes, inward investment, workforce education/re-education, and improved infrastructure can play in promoting economic regeneration and vibrancy in urban centres. These interactions also provided the group an opportunity to exchange best-practice strategies and to create professional networks with each other and with their U.S. hosts.
