Civic Journalism Program

1999-2000

Journalists are interested in applying the concept of civic journalism to Ireland and Northern Ireland. This group travelled to the United States to meet with peers and theorists at the Shorenstein Center for Press and Public Policy at Harvard University, the theory's leading proponent, Joy Rosen, in New York, and the Editor and staff of the Louisville Courier-Jouranl to observe the concept in action. The program was an effort to get journalists discussing the impact of conflict on reporting and the possibility of focusing on community or civic stories and reporting styles.
