Northern Ireland Committee on the Environment

1997-1998

The three committees that have been chosen to have a focused program for their elected representatives, and their civil servants, will share some similar sessions. Federalism is a crucial area of analysis considering the similarities emerging between the relationship between the center and the periphery in the US and Europe. Information provision for elected representative and building relationships between elected officials and their administrators are the areas that have seen intensive study in the United States political system in recent years. The groups will travel to another state to discuss the challenges and possible solutions to common problems in the theme area. This committee travels to the State of Maine to meet with private groups, state and federal agencies and elected representatives with particular interest in the environment. This program is funded through the USIA.
