Participatory Action Research in Post-Katrina New Orleans:
Phase Two
A sub-group of the health promoters and advocates from Phase One will assume more leadership of the PhotoVoice-PAR process in Phase Two of the project. Specifically, they will work with and train community members who have received services from the participating organizations and from tၼhe health promoters themselves. The community members, with guidance from the health promoters and advocates, will join in documenting their experiences in Post-Katrina New Orleans, and critically analyzing and discussing these experiences in cross-racial and interethnic groups.
At the end of Phase Two, health promoters, advocates, and community members will plan a “traveling exhibit” of their photographs and narratives, to share with New Orleanians who were displaced by Katrina and are still living in Baton Rouge, Houston, and Atlanta.
This project and the eventual exhibits seek to bring Latina and African American New Orleanians, in and outside of New Orleans together, to continue a process of identifying cultural, social, and community-based strengths and challenges, long after the project itself ends.
