Clough Graduate Fellow Shannon Monaghan Published in Contemporary European History (Cambridge)
Shannon Monaghan, Clough Center Graduate Fellow, recently had an article published by Contemporary European History (Cambridge). The article, "Whose Country, Whose Soldiers, Whose Responsibility? First World War Ex-Servicemen and the Development of the Irish Free State, 1923-1939," examines how Irish First World War veterans served as transitional figures during the state-building phase of the Irish Free State in the 1920s and 1930s, and shows how these men served as vehicles through which the Free State cemented its stability and defined its independence and obligations in the international and domestic arenas in the interwar period.

Jeremy Waldron's inaugural Clough Distinguished Lecture in Jurisprudence has recently been published by the Boston College Law Review. Waldron, Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory at All Souls College, University of Oxford and University Professor of Law, New York University School of Law, delivered his lecture last September to an eager audience of Boston College faculty and students. Clough Graduate Fellow Seth Meehan Published in The New York Times
Seth Meehan, Clough Center Graduate Fellow, published an article examining the historical dimensions of the contraception debate in the New York Times. Meehan's article, part of the ongoing 2012 election series Campaign Stops, examines the role that Boston Cardinal Richard Cushing played in the birth control debate of the 1960s. The Clough Center congratulates Hidetaka Hirota, a doctoral candidate in History at Boston College, for receiving the Organization of American Historian's Pelzer Award for Best Essay in American History. Hirota received funding from the Center for his dissertation on the history of immigration restriction in the nineteenth-century United States. Read the full press release here.
