CIVIC INTERNSHIPS: MAY 2010

Christopher Fitzpatrick '13 
Garda Síochána Inspectorate, Dublin, Ireland
Christopher Fitzpatrick will serve as an intern with the Garda Síochána Inspectorate, an office of the Irish Department of Justice that works to maintain the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness in the national police. In this capacity, he will collaborate with a team of Irish civil servants, publishing reports specifically on current criminal investigation procedures and police supervision practices in Ireland.

 

Heather Clark '11
Suffolk County District Attorney, Daniel F Conley
Heather Clark will be working as an intern for the Suffolk County District Attorney, Daniel F Conley. Heather will be working in the courthouse assisting in clerical tasks to keep the court running smoothly. She will also be spending time attending trials, visiting the police crime lab and interacting with staff attorneys. The position will give her the opportunity to begin understanding the court systems in order to develop the skills needed to become a successful prosecuting attorney.

 

Gregory McGee '11
African Community Education Program, Worcester, MA
Greg McGee will serve as an intern for the African Community Education Program in Worcester, Massachusetts. ACE is a non-profit organization that provides academic enrichment for the children of the African community. Many of these children grew up in war-torn countries and refugee camps where they never received adequate educations. Upon entering the U.S. school system, they are placed according to their ages and not their capabilities, making it easy for them to fall behind. It is ACE’s mission to bridge these educational gaps and help the children to achieve their future goals. As an intern, Greg will help fundraise, coordinate the ACE Summer Program, serve as a tutor, and plan various outreach events to increase community involvement. 



Samuel Ratner '11
Albany Civil Rights Institute, Albany, GA

Samuel Ratner will serve as an intern at the Albany Civil Rights Institute, a museum and research center in Albany, GA. He will be working on a variety of projects for the Institute, including the gathering, recording, and transcription of interviews with those who were involved in the civil rights movement in southern Georgia. He will also be researching the movement history in Albany specifically for his undergraduate thesis.

 

Kevin Cahalane '11
Intern with Newton Mayor Setti D. Warren

Kevin Cahalane will intern in the office of Mayor Setti D. Warren of Newton, MA. His responsibilities will include but will not be limited to, assisting residents mitigate various issues and help them deal with various city services; assisting the Executive staff with various administrative responsibilities; assisting the Mayor and his staff at various events throughout the city.

 

Christopher Terris '12
Intern with Representative Paul Ryan (R, WI-1)

Christopher Terris will serve as intern to Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin's first congressional district. He is the ranking Republican member of the Committee on the Budget and also holds a seat on the Committee on Ways and Means.  Terris will be working primarily as an assistant in the Longworth House Office Building as well as giving constituent tours of the Capitol building.

 

Zach Zimmermann '12
Intern with Senator Kaufman (D, DE)

Zach Zimmermann will serve as an intern in the Washington office of Senator Kaufman of Delaware.  Senator Kaufman’s committee assignments include positions on the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Subcommittee on African Affairs. As such, Zimmermann’s work will include the management of constituent and media relations, but also will incorporate research on pending and future legislation in relation to African Affairs.

 

Emmet Gustafson '12
Intern with Congressman John B. Larson (D, CT-1)
Emmet Gustafson will intern in the Washington, D.C. office of Congressman John Larson. Congressman Larson is the fourth-ranking congressional Democrat. He serves on the House Committee of Ways and Means as well as the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. He will work with the Congressman’s office on tasks ranging from constituent services to conducting research on pending legislative issues.
