Continuing the Journey

Successfully Navigating a Job Search or Career Transition

This career oriented program is offered to alumnae who are navigating the path back into the workforce or are facing a career transition. This full day interactive seminar is focused on the practical “how-to’s” of the job search with several break-out sessions offered, including resume writing, interviewing techniques, and effective networking. It is a wonderful opportunity to interact with fellow alumnae and Council members.

This full-day program includes sessions and workshops focused on networking, resume-building and personal branding strategies. A panel of highly accomplished alumnae will advise on these topics and will share additional techniques for professional success. The program will include a networking luncheon and post-event reception.

Morning Session
This session targets women who are in the earlier stages of the job search.

8:30 – 9:15 Networking and Registration

9:15 – 9:30 Welcoming Remarks and Introductions

9:30 – 10:15 You Rarely Hit What You Don’t Aim At!

This truism certainly applies to the process of job search but rarely do job seekers take a strategic approach to the task. The session focuses on the importance of articulating a clear career goal and then setting a strategy for achieving that goal.

10:30 – Noon Breakout Sessions

Session I Purposeful Networking
Lively table exercises will focus on honing networking skills and provide an opportunity to network with other attendees and Council Members.

Session II “If I did it, so can you!”
A panel of distinguished alumnae will discuss their experiences of re-entering the job market after an extended absence, transitioning from the corporate world to the nonprofit sector, and creating a new business from home.

12:00 noon Networking Lunch
Join fellow participants and Council Members for this fun networking opportunity.

 

Afternoon Session
The afternoon session focuses on the later stages of the job search.

1:15 – 2:15 Communicating Your Brand: Résumés, Networking, and Interviews
Featuring Eliza Shanley, co-founder of Women@Work Network

Your job search strategy will include a variety of tactics but none are more important than the tools you use to communicate your “brand” and your value in the workplace.

2:15 – 3:15 How to Effectively Use LinkedIn
You will learn how to create a complete LinkedIn profile with a headline and photo that will grab any potential employer's attention and will learn successful site navigation strategies for career exploration, networking, and job searching.

3:15– 4:00 Interview Workshop
This session explores how to connect the dots between résumés and interviews, and just how do you deal with those “Yikes!” questions.
