Draw Baldwin

Tutorial on how to draw our mascot, Baldwin.

It’s National Draw a Picture of a Bird Day!

No, we didn’t make this day up, but we thought it was the perfect time to teach all our Boston College alumni, students, faculty, and fans how to draw everyone’s favorite bird, Baldwin.

We teamed up with our senior graphic designer and Baldwin illustrator, Bob Monahan, and asked him to show us (and you!) how to draw Baldwin, from head to talons.

In honor of Draw a Picture of a Bird Day, we want to invite you, the BC family, to draw your own Baldwin and—of course—win some fabulous BC gear.

Step-by-step drawing tutorial

Participate in our Draw Baldwin contest. Read more about the rules and how to enter below.

Step 1: Draw the outline of th eyes and beak by drawing two small circles (Baldwin's eyes), an oval, two larger circles, and a "v".

Don't worry, you'll erase some of these lines.

Connect the shapes together. Erase the inner lines to get the outline of eyes and the beak.

Now, color in his eyes. Add Baldwin's eyebrows (he's all business) and his smile. You complete his head by drawing a half circle around his eyes and his beak. You'll need to add some additional feathers - just draw the letter "u" under his beak.

It's time to draw Baldwin's body and arms. The body is a square. For his arms, draw a right angle coming out. You can have Baldwin pointing that BC is #1 with his finger. For his other feather fingers, use ovals. Don't forget to add additional feathers on his arms - just draw the letter "v"!

For Baldwin's shorts, draw a rectangle and divide it down the middle. Add some additional feathers. Next, draw two lines coming from each side for his legs. Baldwin his big shoes (they have to hold his talons in!) so make a half circle and connect the leg lines to the circle. Add the letter "x" for shoelaces.

Color him in and you're done. Go Eagles!

Draw Baldwin Contest

It’s time to unleash your creativity. Baldwin can soar over to San Francisco and sit near the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe he’s grabbing an ice cream with students at White Mountain Creamery. He could be the new star center fielder on your baseball team or making friends with the family’s pet dog (we just hope it’s not a Boston terrier).

The Draw Baldwin contest is simple: watch the video, draw Baldwin, send in your drawing, and win great prizes.

The prizes!

For grown-ups:

·         1st prize: Framed Eagle photo

·         2nd prize: Boston College blanket

Prizes for future Eagles (14 and younger):

·         1st prize: Bristol board pad, paint brushes, watercolor set, set of ink pens, and a stuffed BC Eagle from the Boston College bookstore

·         2nd prize: illustration notebook, colored pencils, and a set of Boston College stickers from the BC bookstore.
