On October 11, 2008, Boston College launched Light the World, a campaign that calls upon each of us to join together to build an ever greater university.

Since 1863, Boston College has been a beacon of hope, first offering education to an immigrant community and growing to extend its educational mission to men and women across the country and around the globe.

As a university that strives for intellectual greatness and is imbued with the distinctive values of Jesuit, Catholic education, Boston College is committed to the formation of men and women who will be a leaven for good in the world, a light to the nations.

Light the World expresses Boston College’s mission and its recognition of the world’s need for a great university that joins faith and reason, that pursues knowledge and justice, and that strives to serve society.
