Frequently Asked Questions

reunion giving q&a

1. Why does BC need my gift?

As BC continues to grow as a national university, while staying true to it's mission of insuring access to the finest possible education in the Jesuit tradition, philanthropic support is more important than ever. BC now competes for leading faculty with the nation's top universities, which have endowments significantly larger than ours. Strong annual support, especially in reunion years, helps us close this gap. As a core part of its mission, BC does not consider applicants' ability to pay tuition, and is committed to meeting the full demonstrated financial need of every admitted student. As a result, our student aid budget has increased from $60.1 million to $86 million over the past 5 years. While many of our competitors have endowed funds that cover 30, 40, or even 50 percent of their scholarship budget, BC's endowment covers only 12 percent of our financial aid costs. Again, generous annual support from alumni, parents, and friends plays a key role in closing the gap.

2. Why the focus on Reunion Class Gifts?

Reunions at BC have a long history of reconnecting classmates with the University and rekindling many lifelong friendships. As well, BC has helped shape who many alumni are today. To celebrate, many alumni choose to make a special stretch gift to BC during their Reunion year. The increased participation and elevated giving levels during a Reunion year lead to levels of support for BC that persist throughout the Reunion year and several years to come.

3. What is the Reunion Class Gift crediting policy?

All gifts and/or pledges totaling $50,000 ($25,000 for the 5th through 15th reunions) or more to any university priority made since the last reunion year up to this reunion year will be credited to that upcoming reunion's Class Gift. All outright cash gifts at any level to any university priority made in the reunion year, as well as all pledges of $5,000 payable over five years made in the Reunion year, count to the Reunion Class Gift.

4. How do I make a gift online?

5. How do I make a gift by check or a stock transfer?

6. When is my pledge payment due?

All pledge payments are due by May 31, the end of the fiscal year. If you have a multi-year pledge, each yearly installment is due by May 31.

7. Will my matching gift count toward my reunion gift?

Yes, all matching gifts count toward your total reunion gift. For example, if your personal contribution is $5,000 and your company match is $5,000, your total reunion gift will be $10,000.
