About Us

The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations serves as the central point of contact for corporate and foundation philanthropic engagement with Boston College. Working closely with the Offices of the President, the Provost and Dean of Faculties, and the Vice Provost for Research, along with BC’s faculty and senior administrators, we aspire to advance the University’s teaching, research, and community activities and align University priorities with regional, national, and international donor interest. We seek to provide Corporations and Foundations with an integrated university relations framework by building links among all university departments that interface with our organizational donors.

Recent grants and awards

• A $1 million grant from the William E. Simon Foundation of New York City will be the cornerstone of an enhanced Oral Advocacy Program at Boston College Law School.
  
  The gift will support an on-going program to help participating students sharpen their public speaking skills and develop the ability to argue legal matters passionately and persuasively. The endowed program will be named the Simon Oral Advocacy Program in honor of the late William E. Simon Sr., former US Treasury Secretary and Chairman of the US Olympic Committee, who established the educational and benevolent foundation.

• Boston College has been chosen to participate in the Leaders for Tomorrow scholarship program sponsored by the Annexstad Family Foundation. Each year, for the next 10 years, two BC students will receive $25,000 scholarships. To qualify for the awards, students must demonstrate significant financial need and to show that they have triumphed over personal or family hardship. Recipients must also show a potential for leadership in their chosen field of study.

• Four Boston College faculty members have received prestigious 2012 Sloan Research Fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Assistant Professor of Biology Michelle Meyer, Assistant Professor of Physics Ying Ran, Assistant Professor of Chemistry Dunwei Wang and Assistant Professor of Psychology Liane Young were among the 126 researchers recognized by the Foundation with the two-year, $50,000 awards, which are given annually to early-career scientists and scholars identified as the next generation of leading researchers.
  
  "Today's Sloan Research Fellows are tomorrow's Nobel Prize winners," said Dr. Paul L. Joskow, President of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. "These outstanding men and women are responsible for some of the most exciting science being done today. The Foundation is proud to support them during this pivotal stage of their careers."

• The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (STM) has received a $200,000 grant from an anonymous foundation to undertake what is believed to be the largest and most comprehensive study of Hispanic ministry in Catholic parishes in the United States. The two-year study, to be directed by STM Assistant Professor Hosffman Ospino, will survey parishes, missions and shrines nationwide to assess the impact of the Hispanic presence at the parish level and determine how parishes are meeting the spiritual needs of the fastest-growing group in the U.S. Catholic Church.

• Assistant Professor of Chemistry Eranthie Weerapana has been awarded a pair of prestigious young investigator awards to support her research in identifying new protein activities implicated in cancer and aging, and developing small molecules to perturb these activities within a cellular environment. The Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation recently honored Dr. Weerapana with a Smith Family Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research. The three-year, $300,000 grant is part of a program designed to encourage accomplished junior faculty as they pursue research that has the potential to yield medical breakthroughs. Likewise, the three-year, $450,000 Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award Dr.Weerapana received acknowledges her lab's cutting-edge research for its promise to make significant inroads in the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer.

• City Connects has received a $100,000 grant from The Philanthropic Initiative on behalf of an anonymous foundation sponsoring the Boston Cradle to Career initiative which stimulates innovation in K-12 schools and in community programs. City Connects collaborates with teachers to identify the strengths and needs of every child and creates a uniquely tailored set of intervention, prevention, and enrichment services located in the community designed to help each student learn and thrive.
