Second Sunday of Lent

For Reflection:

The parable of the forgiving father or prodigal son. (Luke 15:11-32)

The parable is the dynamic of unconditional love and forgiveness which leads to joy. Have you been the recipient of such a forgiving love? Could you extend this kind of forgiving love to another?

A MESSAGE FROM FR. JACK BUTLER:

Dear Friends,

We are BC, and as BC, we claim our Christian, Jesuit Catholic heritage. So like years of old when you attended the Heights, let's prepare for Easter together as a community, the BC community past and present. As we begin Lent let us make a deal to accompany each other into the heart of God's love for us. God is love and is about love.  Read More

Alumni Responses:

"When you hold in anger and bitterness and do not let yourself forgive someone that you feel has wronged you, or even when you do not forgive yourself for something you believe you failed with in God's eyes, all it does it eat you up inside and destroy the person that God has created. If GOD is willing to forgive us for our sins then how arrogant is it if we cannot forgive ourselves or others for theirs? (Do we presume we are better than GOD?)" ~ Virginia Bray '82

"Today is the one-week anniversary of the tragic shootings of five students at the local high school. There have been at least two public acknowledgements of forgiveness of the shooter: the first by the students who organized the prayer vigil last Monday night at Chardon Square when a sixth candle was lit for the five students who were shot and the shooter, all recognized as victims; and the second being the statement of the mother of the second boy to die, who publicly forgave the young man who was responsible for the death of her son.  These actions have been felt very strongly throughout the local community, and, I hope, in the wider world." ~ Sister Beth Anne Tercek, SND, GA&S'93

"Forgiveness is at the height of God's love. God gives forgiveness to his children, so we then, as God's children, are to forgive one another.  This is biblical. Remembering though that we, God's children, are of flesh, we know that forgiveness is not an automatic.  We must then be believers in God and his favor and grace. It is at this juncture that we will forgive." ~ Misty Wheeler '86

"I read an anonymous quote once,"Forgiveness is me giving up my right to hurt you for hurting me." Jesus has taught us to love one another and we cannot accomplish that if we cling to hurt and anger.  There are no greater gifts than God's love and forgiveness of our sins. If we strive to follow His path then one of the greatest steps we can take is to forgive one another." ~ Beth '97

"How can you forgive and forget the pains as well?" ~ Falana Odunayo Thomas
