Office of International Students and Scholars
your home away from home

This is not your typical immigration office. In addition to offering a full array of resources regarding your visa needs, from Orientation to Commencement, the Office of International Students and Scholars provides advice, programs, and services to international students, faculty, and research scholars from 94 countries around the world.
The OISS serves as one of the primary offices devoted to meeting the needs of international students at Boston College. Additionally, the office provides program advisement to nearly 40 intercultural clubs. The following are some of the many programs and opportunities supported by the OISS:
GLOBAL PROFICIENCY PROGRAM
Boston College's Global Proficiency Program, a unique initiative on Boston College's campus, is a personal response to the ongoing challenges of globalization. The program aims at combining academic achievement, campus involvement, and community service to create well-rounded individuals capable of making competent and compassionate decisions that will shape a new world.
Born out of the Jesuit liberal arts tradition, the program produces top-caliber individuals with a diverse range of talents, experiences, and interests who are well equipped to seize new opportunities with vigor and understanding. The National Association of Student Personal Administrators (NASPA) awarded the Global Proficiency Program at Boston College First Place in the International Programming Category for the IEKC 4th Annual Best Practices in International Education at the 2006 National NASPA Conference in Washington, DC. International Assistant Program
Boston College realizes that the transition of international students to the U.S. university environment can be complex. The goal of this program is to provide incoming international students the opportunity to work closely with a mentor (an upper-class student) to learn about the intricacies of Boston College, the city of Boston, and US culture in general. Thanksgiving Day Host Program
Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for Americans to be with their family, to remember their good fortune, and to be thankful for all that they have. Considering that many of the U.S. students will be spending the holiday at home with their families, the Office of International Students & Scholars sponsors a special program for international students.
In October, international students at Boston College receive an invitation to share in a traditional Thanksgiving Day feast with a Boston College faculty member or administrator. Not only does this program allow students to experience a U.S. Thanksgiving, but it also introduces them to other members of our community.
These are just a sampling of the many programs offered each year by the Office of International Students & Scholars at Boston College. For more information, please contact:
