Boston College Women's Rugby Team

Established 1979

April 2008

Our first game in April versus UConn was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Our second game of the season versus Babson ended in a narrow win. Brynne Wilson earned 3 points on a penalty kick and Veronica Smith scored her first A-side try to make the final score 8-7.

The Beast of the East Tournament held in Portsmouth, Rhode Island was a fast-paced weekend. We played Rutgers at 8:30 AM and lost 24-0. Our next game was played at 6PM that night versus Castleton State which ended in a 14-0 win. Tries were scored by Shannon Hart and Kristen Donohue. Conversion points were scored by Erika Hernandez. Sunday morning we returned to play Siena College. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of double overtime. The teams kicked for points and the game ended in a Boston College win by the foot of Erika Hernandez. Immediately following the Siena game, BC played SUNY New Paltz. Though it was a well played and hard fought game, BC lost 10-0.

Our final game of the season versus URI was held at home. A-side kicked off the day at 11 AM with a narrow win to clinch the mini-league championships! B-side followed immediately to sweep the B-side division! Our tired players ended the day playing the alumni and grilling hamburers and hotdogs.

March 2008

March 2008 brought great success to Boston College. We traveled to North Carolina with the help of many alumni and their donations - both time and monetary. We would also like to thank Raliegh Women's Rugby for hosting us and allowing us to use their field. The numerical statistics do not at all reflect our accomplishments. First, our team dynamic improved significantly. For the first time in many seasons the backs and the forwards played well together. Second, had the experience of playing other teams in a different area of the country. Finally and most importantly, we had fun in Raleigh.

Our first game game this season in our "Mini-League" versus Stonehill ended in a strong win. Two tries were scored by Elissa Hernandez and one was scored by Liz Flood.

Our second game versus Bentley was less successful and ended with our first loss of the season. Tries were scored by Brynne Wilson and Liz Flood.
