SAP Programs
As one of the largest volunteer organizations at Boston College, the Student Admission Program has plenty of opportunities for students to get involved! Read on to learn more about our programs.
AHANA Outreach
Coordinator: Morine Cebert
This program aims to recruit prospective AHANA students through telethons, open house events, and overnight visits throughout the year. Volunteers are called upon as necessary, providing high school students with the AHANA student experience and perspective. The main goal of this program is to increase diversity within the student body.
Campus Tours
Coordinator: Justin Pike
Campus Tours are given at 11AM, 12PM, 1PM and 3PM every weekday, and at 10 AM and 12 PM on several Saturdays during the fall semester. There are no appointments necessary and all tours begin and end in the Admission Office. Generally tours run between an hour and 75 minutes. There are approximately 120 tour guides, selected by an application process.
This position is only available to SAP volunteers who have volunteered previously for SAP. In order to apply, the applicant must volunteer for at least two programs within one semester, OR one or two programs over multiple semesters. The application process occurs at the end of each semester.
Day Visits
Coordinators: Julie Visk, Matt Cerundolo & Allie Minogue
The Day Visit Program strives to provide prospective students with a personal perspective of the Boston College experience from current students. Volunteers are expected to take visitors to at least one class, to eat with their guest at a dining hall (visitors are asked to bring money for lunch), to give an informal tour of the campus, and to convey a general sense of the average day at Boston College. Visitors and hosts are matched up according to academic interest by the Day Visit Coordinators in conjunction with the Office Management Staff. The day itself is informal and left mostly to the discretion of the host in order to personalize the process. Appointments are made through the SAP office and the day visit runs from 9:45 - 1:00 on MWF and 10:15 - 1:30 on TTH.
Eagle Eye Information Sessions
Coordinator: Scott Landay
Participants in the panel program field the questions of prospective students and their families in an informal setting. Each panel is comprised of five students who represent a cross section of the Boston College student body. Each volunteer will be required to serve approximately one hour per week as well as one or two Saturday or special panels per semester.
This position is only available to SAP volunteers who have volunteered previously for SAP. In order to apply, the applicant must volunteer for at least two programs within one semester, OR one or two programs over multiple semesters. The application process occurs at the end of each semester.
Greeting
Coordinator: Scott Jelinek
The Greeting Program requires passion and enthusiasm for Boston College and a readiness to convey that excitement to visiting families during a weekly one-hour time slot in the Admissions Office. Greeters are the first volunteers to welcome visitors to Boston College and respond to their questions and concerns: as guests wait to attend a Panel, Tour, or Day Visit, they are eager to get a first impression of our school and its student body from Greeters. This program provides a comfortable conversational setting in which you will encounter questions on academics, sports, social life, housing, and all areas in between. Greeters provide an invaluable service to the Office and gain excellent preparation to be Panelists or Tour Guides!

High School Visits
Coordinator: Scott Jelinek
The High School Visits Program invites all SAP volunteers to extend the work they do in the Student Admissions Office to their home communities over holiday breaks. This program will provide all volunteers with the training and materials necessary to structure admission presentations at their high schools over Thanksgiving and/or Christmas vacation. A small time commitment relative to other Programs, High School Visits is a perfect way to gain experience in SAP and to provide prospective students in your hometown with a familiar BC contact and a forum for open discussion about Boston College and the overall search process.
International Outreach
Coordinator: Luke Lapointe
The International Outreach is a wonderful program within SAP where you get to reach out to prospective International Students through letters and very exciting phone calls. During first semester we have letter writing sessions where we write to International students who have expressed interest in BC, with the hopes of creating an open line of dialogue through which we can answer questions about BC, or just college life in the United States in general. Second semester you get a chance to think critically about how to describe BC as a whole, as well as verbally convey your experiences here, as we call all of the International students who have been accepted to Boston College. You do not by any means have to be an International student to join International Outreach; you must simply have a passion for reaching out to the far corner of the globe in hopes of expanding BC's level of diversity on campus!
Office Management
Coordinator: Christine Staffon
Office management is the administrative backbone of SAP. Volunteers work in the SAP office, where they answer general questions and schedule day visits and special tours. Additionally, they perform routine office work (i.e. stuffing letters, making phone calls, etc.). Office management provides great office experience as well as an opportunity to learn more about the 8 other SAP programs. Time slots occur in one-hour intervals Monday through Friday from 9AM until 5PM. There are normally 2-3 volunteers assigned to each timeslot. Volunteers are welcome to sign up with a friend if accommodations permit.
Outreach
Coordinator: Katie Wostbrock
The Outreach program is responsible for contacting prospective students throughout the fall and subsequently accepted students during the spring. In the fall, Outreach volunteers write postcards and/or e-mails, depending upon the volunteer's preference, to students who have submitted their information to the Admission Office and are interested to/attending BC. Although Outreach attempts to contact all students, volunteers aim to reach every interested student from target states (those states from which BC receive less than 100 applicants per year). As final decisions are mailed from the Admission Office, the Outreach program hits the phone lines and contacts all accepted students (Early Action & Regular Decision) within the College of Arts and Science. Volunteers are asked to congratulate the accepted students and to answer any questions they may have about life at BC. These telethons will occur in January and April. The Outreach Program will also offer assistance to Nursing, Education, Management, and Transfer students by working with the Admission staff liaisons to these various departments.
Check out upcoming Outreach events on the calendar.
SAP Online
Coordinator: Sam Lipscomb
The Technology program deals with all computing and web-based issues for the Student Admission Program. The program focuses on three main areas: the SAP website, student blogging and live chatting. The website is a resource for all prospective students, where they can contact SAP volunteers with specific majors or interests, access student blogs and view videos that will give them a better look at BC. It is also a resource for SAP volunteers, with information about programs, coordinators and upcoming events. Student blogs will be updated weekly by chosen students in order to give a personal view of the daily life of a Boston College student. Live chatting for parents will occur during SAP office hours, and larger chat sessions for students will be held throughout the semester. No extensive computer knowledge is required to join this program, just a desire to communicate with prospective students and offer them help in the college admission process.
