American Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED programs are designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life.
Note on new Guidlines: The American Red Cross Club of Boston College, starting with the Fall of 06', will be offering only courses in the new ECC 2005 guidlines for CPR and First Aid. Current certifications are still valid untill they expire.
Each semester the The American Red Cross Club of Boston College offers 3 CPR courses to its members (at a reduced cost) ranging from basic first aid to professional rescuer CPR & AED. We also are avalible to teach groups of individuals or departments on request. Course Descriptions:
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
A 8-hour course that teaches a variety of skills including one- and two-rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation masks and bag-valve masks for ventilating victims, and how to respond in special rescue situations such as drowning. This course satisfies the CPR requirement for Nursing Majors at Boston College!
Standard First Aid and Safety with CPR & AED
Prepares you with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This course covers first aid, adult CPR and AED training.
First Aid
The purpose of this course is to train individuals in the skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This course does not include information on breathing or cardiac emergencies.
AED Essentials
Participants learn the importance of, and how to use the AED's that are strategically located on our campus and throughout the community. Requires current CPR Card in either Profesional Rescuer or Layperson CPR
Adult / Child / Infant CPR
These courses teach you CPR, rescue breathing, and choking skills for either the Adult, Child, or Infant, depending on the course. These courses are at the level of certification, and provide you with a strong base in CPR, however do not provide certification to the level required for Nursing Students or Lifeguards.
Challenge and Refresher Courses
Periodically, the club will hold challenge courses and refresher courses for members in the Professional Rescuer skills. These courses are shorter in length, however require a solid understanding in the principles of CPR and in many cases a current CPR card.
