This weekend the Boston College women’s club lacrosse team traveled down to Annapolis, VA to the Navy tournament hosted by the Naval Academy. Loyola, Navy, Pittsburg, Villanova, and Boston College, all competed against one another. Saturday opened with a game against Loyola. The Eagles outplayed Loyola as our midfielders controled transitions. Although the team could have dominated more of second half, the Eagles walked away with 11-8 win against Loyola. In the afternoon, Boston College faced last year’s rival, Navy. Navy was the biggest contender this weekend as they are ranked 1 in the nation and is enrolled as a Division I team in 2008. Although the Eagles possessed the heart to win and beat Navy, they were unable to execute properly and lost to Navy 4-18 The following day BC faced Pittsburg, ranked number 11 on Laxpower. Fueled from Navy’s game the day before, the Eagles came out on fire and led the game at half time. However, Pittsburg fired back in the last 10 minutes of the game and the Eagles were defeated 4-8. The disappointing losses blinded the Eagles and they overlooked Villanova. Again, the team played with heart and skill but was unable to execute in the last minutes. Villanova took the win 8-7. The tournament sent the message that the Eagles are a highly skilled and determined team despite the record. Every member contributed this weekend whether it was on the field or on the sideline. Although the Eagles walked away with a disappointing result, the team became closer as they shared the entire weekend together. The best highlight this weekend was realizing that as interestingly different the individuals on the team are, they all share a common camaraderie and passion for lacrosse.
This weekend the Boston College women’s club lacrosse team opened their season with a round robin tournament hosted by Brandeis University. UNH, Maine, Boston College, and Brandeis all competed against one another and Boston College blew away the competition. The first game the Eagles played in was against UNH. The Eagles dominated from the first draw and walked away with a 6-1. A solid performance was demonstrated from the team’s upperclassmen and the new on comers as well as freshmen were able to make their mark. Immediately following UNH, Boston College faced Brandeis, a fellow league rival. BC wasted no time making their mark and produced an impressive 12-1 win. Every player contributed on and off the field and the win showed the Eagles were all business. The last game of the day ended with Boston College and Maine. The Eagles produced a 8-0 shut out and completed the sweep. The tournament sent the message that the Eagles are here and here to win. Every team member contributed and it was with a team effort that victory was achieved. BC has a big season ahead of them and with the hard work and skills they demonstrated this weekend, this team will go on to be very successful.
