Inhalations Series

Shannon Johnston:
“I want my work to be something that has the possibility to communicate to a broad audience. I think that by making specific political/religious/social statements, we as artists run the risk of alienating viewers. When I’m in the midst of creating I don’t exactly have a statement or even a thematic idea in mind. Of course, as a series develops, the themes become clear and must become a consideration. I think that these contrasting elements (soft/strong, geometric/organic, deliberate/ephemeral) manifest themselves simply because struggle and dichotomy are so intricately intertwined into being human. We can all relate on a personal level to a contention between order and chaos.”
