Shannon Johnston:“There are several phases in my process. The first is an experience with the fabric. The second phase is one of the more difficult for me; it’s where I layout my canvas. It’s the previous enjoyment of the visual experience of selecting the fabrics and the anticipation of the “paint slinging” that seems to get me through the tedium of the technicalities in this phase. The third, and most technical phase is the sewing. During this phase, I feel most strongly connected to myself as a woman, as an artist. Then finally the fun phase where I get to throw some paint.”
