  • Intro to Finance with Prof. Barry- November 16th

    We will be hosting our Intro to Finance Night with Professor Michael Barry, the first of our faculty speaker series. Prof. Barry will discuss a number of topics including different careers within the financial services, how to prepare and educate yourself about roles in finance, and a general overview of finance at Boston College and beyond. Freshmen and sophomores are especially encouraged to attend.

    This event will take place on Tuesday, November 15th at 6:00 in the Fulton Honors Library
  • Getting to Success: Straight Talk from 2 CEOs - October 17th

    With the CSOM Honors Program, we will be hosting "Getting to Success: Straight Talk from 2 CEOs," where two leaders will speak about preparing for life in the professional world after graduation. Peter Olson, former chairman and CEO of Random House, and Candice Olson, former CEO of ivillage.com, will be speaking about the transition from college to the workplace, how to find your professional trajectory, among other topics.

    This event will be held Monday, October 17th at 4:30 in Gasson 305.

  • Wall Street Trek - October 28

    On Friday, October 28th, the Finance Academy, in conjunction with the Graduate Finance Academy, will be hosting our annual Wall Street Trek.

    We will be visiting Morgan Stanley, Jefferies & Company, and Goldman Sachs at their New York headquarters. The trip will allow students to network with business professionals from each of these firms. BC alumni and representatives from investment banking, asset management, and sales and trading will be present.
  • BCFA Interview Workshop with BC Alumni - September 30

    BC alumni from across the financial services (investment banking, hedge funds, private equity, mezzanine finance) will speak to upperclassmen about interview best practices and offer general career advice. They will also be available for networking. The event features Dave Petrucco , managing partner at Kayne Anderson, Tom Olivier , managing director at Morgan Keegan Technology Group, Kerri McNicholas , analyst at Lincolnshire Management, and William Smith , a hedge fund credit analyst at UBS.

    This event will be held Friday, September 30 at 1:00pm in the Fulton Honors Library.

  • Interview Prep with Goldman Sachs - September 23

    Two BC alumni, currently working for Goldman Sachs, will join us via videoconference from London to offer interview preparation and general career advice to BC undergraduates. Students in the interview process, especially upperclassmen, are encouraged to attend. Seating is limited.

  • New York Trip - Jan 28, 2011

    The BCFA will be hosting its annual Wall Street Trip on Friday, January 28. The trip will be an all day event that features trips to Barclays Capital, Citigroup, and Jefferies & Co. Students are required to fill out an application that can be found at the link below to be considered for the trip. This trip has been a great success in past years and provides countless opportunities to network with Boston College alumni. Professionals from multiple divisions including, investment banking, sales and trading, capital markets origination, and operations will be present. The trip will cost $20 for students and will include lunch. Further information about logistics will be forthcoming for students selected for the trip.

    Applications for the trip are to be submitted by Friday, January 21 at 5:00pm.

  • Hedge Funds & The Flash Crash with Prof. Sadka - Thursday, November 4th, 2010

    The Boston College Finance Academy will be hosting the second event in its Faculty Speaker Series. Professor Ronnie Sadka of the Finance Department will be leading a discussion related to his research: liquidity in hedge funds and the cause of the flash crash, among other topics. All majors and classes are encouraged to attend. This event is especially relevant for sophomore and junior finance majors. There will be a question and answer period and free food.

    The Graduate Finance Academy of Boston College hosted a trip to Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan in New York. The trip included both undergraduate and graduate students. JP Morgan Research and Sales and Trading was present while, Investment Management Investment Banking, and Sales and Trading divisions of Goldman Sachs was present.

    Over 30 Students of the Boston College Finance Academy heard four seniors speak about their internship experiences in the areas including: Sales & Trading, Investment Banking and Corporate Finance. The guest speakers talked about the specifics of their jobs and gave many valuable tips on networking, interviewing and getting an internship.
    The four guest speakers were: Ryan Crowe, Rob Celin, Rachel Stephan and Charlie Witmer.

  • First General Meeting - Sept 16, 2010

    The time is being changed from 7:30pm to 8:15pm to accommodate Freshmen.
    The BCFA will be holding its First General Meeting on Thursday, September 16 at 8:15pm in McGuinn 121. All students interested in becoming members of the Academy are strongly advised to attend the meeting. Topics discussed will include: Introductions of class officers, tutorial on the resources in our newly developed website, overview of fall semester events and trips, and how students can become more involved.     Course Advising Session - Wednesday April 7, 2010

    Tomorrow evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm the Finance Academy will be hosting a Drop-In Course Advisement Session in Gasson 210. Junior and senior officers from the Finance Academy will be on-hand to talk to students about courses in management and finance. This is a particularly good opportunity for freshmen and sophomores to learn more about and ask questions concerning concentrations, courses, and professors. Pizza and soda will be provided, so drop in anytime between 6 and 8. Thanks, and we hope to see you then.

  • Boston Trip

    Boston Trip - Friday April 16, 2010

    We will be holding our Annual Boston Finance Trip this year on Friday, April 16, 2010. The trip will include visits to Summit Partners, Raymond James-Investment Banking Division, and Fidelity Investments. Please look at the attached documents for a more in depth description of these firms and the tentative itinerary for the trip. The trip will likely run from 7:45 am to 4 pm. For those people interested in attending, you can reserve a position by filling out the form found at the link provided below. Due to space restrictions at each of the firms the number of attendees is limited. Positions will be filled on a first come first serve basis. This is a great opportunity to start networking with Boston College alums in the Boston area. The trip will be free; however, all attendees will be responsible for their own transportation costs (Subway, Cab, etc.). We look forward to hearing from you all in the near future.
