APACLAR
Asian Pacific-Islander/American Cultural Leadership Awareness Retreat

In an attempt to continue to create community and build upon our relations as an Asian Caucus community of leaders, APACLAR Weekend is spent reflecting on our positions in the API/A community, discussing issues that plague our communities, and having fun eating, sleeping, and playing together.

In 2006 this retreat went off campus to Thompson Island for a 2 night retreat. This retreat focused on group bonding through community building activities as well as a political documentary called Sentenced Home. This film was about the deportation of Cambodian refugees. A copy of Sentenced Home is available for previewing in the Boston College O'Neill Library Media Center.

In 2007 this became a one day retreat to Match Media and Technology High School. The theme for this retreat was ALUP: Awareness, Leadership, Unity, and Progression. The 4 main workshop dove into each topic through interactive activities and games.

Prehaps the best benefit of APACLAR is that it's the first time in the year that all the Asian Organizations are united under one roof and have the opportunity to share insights with one another. It's a chance for friendships to grow and memories to be made.
