About Allies
Allies serves the role of a gay-straight alliance at Boston College. We are a group of GLBTQ and straight students working to foster a better community for everyone. Tolerance as an attitude towards someone of a different sexual orientation is not enough; the group promotes acceptance of all and equal rights. We all need to work together if we want to see change in our society and the community we live in, at BC and beyond the school. Allies tries to spark that collaboration by holding events to help everyone be a better citizen and encourage people to see situations through someone else’s perspectives, generally every month. We believe everyone can be an ally; it is as easy as being an accepting person who treats everyone with respect regardless of sexual orientation or anything else. If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, join us. We are a group of friends as much as we are a club working for a better community and are always looking for new members!
David Riemer - President
A&S 2014
David is a Film, Classics, and Communications triple major. He's slightly less crazy than this
implies. Colonel Sass to some, David is notoriously sarcastic and has been known to wear
heinous K-Swiss sneakers. He enjoys writing and video editing and hopes to do something in
the line of social justice documentary work in the future. Obviously he's a big proponent of gay
rights and wants to help make BC a better place for GLBTQ people.
Melanie Courtemanche - Vice President
A&S 2013
Melanie is a memeber of the class of 2013, an English major and Women and Gender Studies minor. She is also involved in Voices and Cura. Regrettably, she suffers from a terrible case of Bieber Fever, for which there is as of yet no known cure.
Karli Sultzbaugh - Treasurer
A&S 2014
Karli Sultzbaugh is a Political Science major in the Class of 2014. She has been involved with GSA and related activities since her freshman year of high school. Her mom came out when she was 13 and has always wanted to stand up for her mom and equal rights in general. She loves BC Allies!
Patrick Hughes - Director of Design
A&S 2014
Patrick is also a member of the class of 2014. He's a Biology major, and this year had been involved in GLC, Allies, and is a Queer Peer advisor. In his free time he likes to bake cookies and slay dragons. Also, fire juggling. And making websites. Like this one! He's always availiable for hugs and adventure, preferably on the high seas.
Katlyn Prentice - Director of Communication
A&S 2014
Another member of the class of 2014, Katlyn is a film major with aspirations of creating things that don't suck. Whenever she's not busy being struck with brilliant ideas, she's not only involved with Allies, but also R.E.A.C.T., which I'm sure she'd like you to check out. And while she's a very kind, amazing person, she'll always be a bro at heart (see above).
Josh Crespo - Director of Programming
A&S 2014
Joshua is a Theatre and Communications major of the class of 2014. He is an enthusiastic and fun person (how could he not be with majors like that). He is from East Boston, Massachusetts and a graduate of Boston College High School. He is very excited to be an ally and working with an awesome group of people! Also he thinks he might take Pat up on his offer for an adventure on the high sea. A hug wouldn’t hurt either.
Ryan Smith - "Assistant to the Directors"
A&S 2014
Ryan, yet another member of the class of 2014,is just ridiculous enough to fit in perfectly with the rest of the group. While he has no "official" title, we all know that things just wouldn't be the same without him around. Also, there'd be a lot more grunt work for the rest of us.
