C21 Student Advisory Board

the church in the 21st century center

The Student Advisory Board is comprised of Boston College undergraduate students. The board meets bi-monthly to connect about ideas for the center, engage in dialogue about the Catholic Church and explore greater questions surrounding their faith. The main task of the board is to plan for, promote, and host Agape Latte. If you are interested in joining the Student Advisory Board please contact Karen Kiefer at to set up an interview. Please note that our board members honor a two-year commitment.

I am a junior in the Connell School of Nursing, minoring in Hispanic Studies, and I absolutely LOVE studying this, despite its many challenges. My hometown is the beautiful and sunny Phoenix, Arizona and my hobbies include hiking, running, swimming and reading. At BC, I am a Cura leader for a group on the Newton campus and I was a Beginnings Retreat leader for the freshmen. I have also been a team captain for BC’s Relay for Life in 2012 and now in 2013. Outside of BC, I volunteer at Children’s Hospital Boston because I love the opportunity to put smiles on children's faces. Before coming to BC, I had a fairly strong perception of God and my faith, however once I came here, I realized how much more there was to learn and how many opportunities there were for me to grow in my faith. I learn something new every day in terms of my faith and I am nowhere near having it all figured out. The first Agape Latte I attended early in my freshman year was very eye opening for me, and I wanted to become more involved. I see C21 and the student board as a phenomenal opportunity for me to learn more about both my faith and myself and to share opportunities with students at BC to do the same. I have loved meeting new people through C21 and I am excited to help C21 grow!

I am the oldest of four kids from Needham, Massachusetts and am a senior here at BC.  I am currently a sociology major but am on a five year track to be a nurse.  I play on the varsity lacrosse team, so the only way for me to pursue nursing was to choose a different major and go to school for a fifth year. I love playing lacrosse, running, sailing in Cape Cod, and I am really passionate about community service which is why I am a volunteer at Children's Hospital in Boston! After being introduced to Karen Kiefer and attending Agape Latte several times, I decided that the C21 board is something that I really wanted to be a part of.  I am so excited to join C21 and am looking forward to developing my faith even further and spreading it to the BC community! I feel it is important to ignite the faith within the students here and encourage more people to openly talk about their spirituality and the church.

I am currently a senior majoring in theology and minoring in sociology. My hometown is just 15 minutes away from BC in Roxbury, MA. I absolutely love Boston College and the incredible people on this campus. Here at Boston College I am an Appalachia leader, on the board for Student for Education Reform and a work-study student for Campus Ministry. I also volunteer with 4Boston at St. Francis house. Some of my interest includes traveling, hiking, and basketball. This is my first semester being a part of the C21 student advisory and I am excited for what’s to come!

Originally from Westborough, MA, I am a senior in the Carroll School of Management. I'm studying Finance and Information Systems. I love skiing, baseball, football, and music. On campus, I'm also active with the Student Admissions Program. I cam in context with the C21 Advisory Board late in my Freshman year, and it had turned out to be a great way to get involved wihile actively practicing my faith.

I am a senior in the School of Arts and Sciences. I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Theology. Originally, I am from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Here at Boston College, I am a member of the Relay for Life committee, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. I was a part of the Freshman Leadership Program and played intramural sports in my  freshman year. Also, I work at the Media Technology Services in Campion. I chose to get involved in C21 after attending Agape Latte. At Agape Latte, I enjoyed being engaged in a honest conversation about God with other college students. I was able to get some insight into how my peers have transitioned into the college life and have maintained a relationship with God. C21's events on campus invite students to openly talk about their faith and help build a faith community among students. The group conversation during C21 events encourage students to challenge what they believe in and truly develop their faith into something meaningful.

My name is Lauren and I am a senior at Boston College, studying business/accounting and Spanish. I am from Beverly, Massachusetts, and enjoy playing intramural soccer, tennis, and volunteering. Besides the beautiful campus, I really love the sense of community you feel when you walk around BC. I also admire all of the opportunities and activities Boston College has to offer and the life-long connections that can be made. I joined C21 last fall because I wanted to enliven my faith and learn from what my peers had to say about the role of faith and God in their lives. The C21 center is such a welcoming community, and getting involved is a great opportunity to create discussion about topics and issues that are prevalent today. Also, the Agape Latte program is a great way to relax with friends, eat cake, and listen to members of the BC community give inspirational talks that can be applied to one's own life. Everyone should get involved!

Growing up in a military family, I moved nine times before coming to BC but call Colorado home.  I am a senior, planning to major in either psychology or theology.  I am a music minor and play the piano.  Long-distance running, skiing, and spending time outdoors in general are huge passions of mine.  In addition to C21, I participate in Peer Health Exchange, a non-profit organization in which college students teach health education workshops at inner-city public schools that have cut health classes from their curriculum.  I also ran the Boston Marathon in 2011 for The Campus School, had a phenomenal experience, and plan to run Boston (and hopefully many other marathons) in my remaining years at BC.  I joined C21 after attending a few Agape Lattes and other talks sponsored by C21 and loved how each of the discussions addressed the question of what our faith means for us today.

At Boston College, I have been a part of the 4Boston volunteers and the Arrupe International Immersion program. I also am a member of the Leadership Team for Salt and Light, and on campus Christian Fellowship. I got involved at the Church in the 21st Century Center in freshman year because I felt the need to help in the revitalization of spirituality
on campus and in the community.

I am a senior in the Carroll School of Management concentrating in Finance and minoring in Philosophy. I am from Needham, Massachusetts and have lived there all of my life. I have a younger brother who is a freshman at BC and younger sister who is a perspective freshman next year. Here at Boston College I am involved in the Student Admissions Program, various intramural sports, the Investment Club and volunteer at Mt. Alvernia Elementary School. Outside of school I enjoy golfing, fishing and boating in Cape Cod. I did not get involved at The Church of the 21st Century Center until the first semester of my Junior year, so it is never too late to get involved! C21 has helped me actively practice my faith on campus with peers who share very similar interests. All are encouraged to participate!
