Lay Ecclesial Ministry Symposium

On Sunday, October 22, C21 hosted "Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord: A symposium on the US Bishops' Statement on lay ecclesial ministry." The Archdiocese of Boston and surrounding dioceses are quietly undergoing a major shift in ministry, driven both by the declining number of priests and the surprising rise in the number of trained lay ministers. Together with priests, deacons, and religious women and men, an increasing number of lay women and men are taking on roles properly described as "ministry." Last November, the US Bishops issued the document "Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord," in recognition of this growing pastoral reality. This symposium gave area parish ministers a chance to reflect on this growing reality in the Church.
