Steering Committee
Charge: The Church in the 21st Century Steering Committee, with the leadership of the Center Director, sets the overall direction for the Church in the 21st Century Center. This includes reviewing the ideas and recommendations of the Advisory Committee and other interested parties, and, in conjunction with specific subcommittees, giving direction to the programs that comprise the Church in the 21st Century Center.

Advisory Committee
Charge: The Church in the 21st Century Advisory Committee provides advice to Church in the 21st Century Center, both in recommending appropriate issues and in suggesting events and activities that most appropriately and effectively fulfill the Center’s mission.

Task Forces
Charge: Task Forces or Planning Groups, drawn from the membership of the Advisory Committee, the Boston College community, and the larger community, are brought together for a specific purpose of planning or program execution for a determined amount of time. Each Task Force is given a specific charge, a membership determined by the Director in consultation with the Steering Committee, and a date by which to report findings and completion of the given task. Either the C21 Center director or associate director serves on each task force.
Catholic Intellectual Tradition Task Force
Charge: As a Catholic University, Boston College has a responsibility to nourish and inform the Church’s intellectual life. Key questions for both academics and members of the Church include: what is the role of religious traditions in fostering a more humane world? How can the Catholic intellectual tradition (CIT) be communicated effectively within the Catholic community? How can the Catholic intellectual tradition inform not only Catholics but also other people of good will? What resources must Catholics bring to light in the academic community in order to address the neuralgic issues of our time? The CIT Task Force will prepare a Pocket Guide, a short publication seeking to effectively introduce the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.

National Religious Education Symposium Planning Group
Charge: Religious education, the formation of each generation in the faith, remains one of the Church’s primary tasks. To support that work into the 21st century, this Planning Group will prepare a national symposium on religious education to take place during the summer of 2011. This charge includes establishing the goals of the symposium, identifying invitees, and the structuring of the event. In its work, the Planning Group will consult the appropriate local and national groups.

CatholicTV® Task Force
Charge: Effective use of available and developing technology is vital for the work of spreading the Gospel and enlivening the Church in the 21st century. Collaboration between The Church in the 21st Century Center and Catholic TV Network affords the opportunity to make available the resources developed by the Center nationally and internationally. In addition, it promotes the sharing of the resources of Catholic universities with the Catholic public.

Internet Presence/Technology Task Force
Charge: Effective presence on the internet and a constantly updated use of technology are two related tools in reaching the widest possible audience to fulfill the mission of The Church in the 21st Century Center. The Internet Presence/Technology Task Force is engaged in constantly improving the C21 Center’s use of technology and its website presence to insure that the Center’s use of technology up-to-the-moment and reaching a wide audience.

C21 Resources Advisory Planning Group
Charge: The publication of C21 Resources each spring and fall gathers the best current writing on The Church in the 21st Century Center’s semester theme. For each issue, an informed expert chosen as guest editor proposes articles for (re)publication. The C21 Resources Advisory Planning Group meets at least twice annually in order to assist the guest editor in choosing the best articles.
Members: Dr. Robert Newton, Rev. Joseph Appleyard, S.J., Mr. Ben Birnbaum, Mr. Jonas Barciauskas, Dr. Barbara Radtke, Ms. Jacqueline Regan and others added to this core group who have expertise on the theme of the issue.
Completion date: semiannually in preparation for publication.
