C21 Student Advisory Board

the church in the 21st century center

The Student Advisory Board is comprised of Boston College undergraduate students. The board meets bi-monthly to connect about ideas for the center, engage in dialogue about the Catholic Church and explore greater questions surrounding their faith. The main task of the board is to plan for, promote, and host Agape Latte. In addition, this year the Student Advisory Board will be helping to promote the new C21 iPhone App. If you are interested in joining the Student Advisory Board please contact Karen Kiefer at church21@bc.edu to set up an interview. Please note that our board members honor a two-year commitment.

I'm from Atlanta, Georgia and am a senior at BC. I'm in CSOM studying marketing and international studies. My favorite part of BC is the community spirit on campus and how everyone is able to come together. On campus, besides the C21 board, I'm also involved in Strong Women, Strong Girls and UGBC. The C21 center is an awesome resource for students and a great way to connect with people on campus, which is why I decided to get involved with it. Being a part of C21 has helped me to meet awesome new people and contribute new ideas towards the future of BC!

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, I am a senior studying Business Management (Accounting) and Theology. I love running, fishing, scuba diving and skiing.I originally joined the C21 committee after being introduced to Karen Keifer during my freshman year and it seemed like a great way to get involved at school. As I grew to learn more about the center, I became more and more excited about being a part of the mission of Center. It's been a great experience being on the C21 Advisory Committee!

I am a Theology and Philosophy double major with a minor in Faith, Peace, and Justice Studies. My favorite thing about BC is the rich and diverse community we have on the Heights. Originally from Toledo, OH, I love to travel and recently returned from a study abroad experience in Nepal. The C21 Student Advisory Board was an appealing opportunity to play a role in the exploration of the content of our Catholic tradition on campus and to learn the opportunities and challenges our Church faces in this next century.

I'm a junior studying marketing and communications at Boston College, originally from North Andover, MA. This coming Fall I'll be studying abroad in Madrid at La Universidad de Carolos III. Since my freshman year, I have been a member of the C21 Advisory Board as well as the work-study student for C21. In addition to work at the C21 Center, I am a tutor for the BC Neighborhood Center. I have also attended several of the retreats on campus including Beginning, 48 Hours, Halftime and Kairos; and I was fortunate enough to have led the Beginnings retreat last year. That's one thing I love so much about BC, is that there are so many opportunities for students to get involved and connect with one another. There is a truly close sense of community here that I feel between going to football games, and just walking around campus and seeing a familiar face. I joined the C21 Student Advisory Board as another way to connect with people and help create an open discussion about the Church with my peers.

In addition to C21, I'm involved in a number of student organizations on campus, particularly the St. Thomas More Society. I am grateful for the opportunity in participate in these communities rooted in the faith, and, through them, to serve the greater Boston College community.

Originally from Minnesota, I am a Junior at BC and an International Studies major. I am especially looking forward to studying abroad in Rome this year. My interests include running, photography, and art. In addition to C21, I'm involved in several Campus Ministry groups and I am an International Assistant. I really enjoy the sense of community on BC's campus. I am very thankful for the strong relationships that are fostered through BC's commitment to faith, service, and activities. I especially enjoy how C21's events invite individuals to further think and converse about matters of faith.

I am a sophomore in the School of Arts and Sciences. I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Theology. Originally, I am from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Here at Boston College, I am a member of the Relay for Life committee, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. I was a part of the Freshman Leadership Program and played intramural sports in my  freshman year. Also, I work at the Media Technology Services in Campion. I chose to get involved in C21 after attending Agape Latte. At Agape Latte, I enjoyed being engaged in a honest conversation about God with other college students. I was able to get some insight into how my peers have transitioned into the college life and have maintained a relationship with God. C21's events on campus invite students to openly talk about their faith and help build a faith community among students. The group conversation during C21 events encourage students to challenge what they believe in and truly develop their faith into something meaningful.

I am in my second year as a Resident Assistant for freshmen and am also a Junior Fellow at BC’s Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy. I became interested in joining the Student Advisory Board after talking with several older students who were involved. I am so excited to be part of an organization which is in the vanguard of renewal and growth for the Catholic Church.

My name is Lauren and I am a sophomore at Boston College, studying business/accounting and Spanish. I am from Beverly, Massachusetts, and enjoy playing intramural soccer, tennis, and volunteering. Besides the beautiful campus, I really love the sense of community you feel when you walk around BC. I also admire all of the opportunities and activities Boston College has to offer and the life-long connections that can be made. I joined C21 last fall because I wanted to enliven my faith and learn from what my peers had to say about the role of faith and God in their lives. The C21 center is such a welcoming community, and getting involved is a great opportunity to create discussion about topics and issues that are prevalent today. Also, the Agape Latte program is a great way to relax with friends, eat cake, and listen to members of the BC community give inspirational talks that can be applied to one's own life. Everyone should get involved!

I am currently a sophomore from New York going Pre-Med majoring in both Biology and Theology and earning a certificate in Global Service and Justice with a concentration in Bioethics. At Boston College, I have been a part of the 4Boston volunteers tutoring middle school and high school students in Roxbury. I also am a member of the Executive Board for Salt and Light, and on campus Christian Fellowship. I got involved at the Church in the 21st Century Center in freshman year because I felt the need to help in the revitalization of spirituality on campus and in the community.

Growing up in a military family, I moved nine times before coming to BC but call Colorado home.  I am a sophomore, planning to major in either psychology or theology.  I am a music minor and play the piano.  Long-distance running, skiing, and spending time outdoors in general are huge passions of mine.  In addition to C21, I participate in Peer Health Exchange, a non-profit organization in which college students teach health education workshops at inner-city public schools that have cut health classes from their curriculum.  I also ran the Boston Marathon in 2011 for The Campus School, had a phenomenal experience, and plan to run Boston (and hopefully many other marathons) in my remaining years at BC.  I joined C21 after attending a few Agape Lattes and other talks sponsored by C21 and loved how each of the discussions addressed the question of what our faith means for us today.
