Spiritual practices have expressed, informed and shaped the practice of the faith for generations of Catholics. From the rosary to centering prayer, from lectio divina to the examen of consciousness, ways of practicing faith have marked what it is to live the Catholic life. The C21 Center's spring 2009 series examines the ongoing riches of the Catholic tradition of spiritual practices.
As Colleen Griffith, editor of the spring issue of C21 Resources, wrote in her opening essay: "Spiritual practices are concrete and specific. They are consciously chosen, intentional actions that give practical purpose to faith. Situated between life as we know it and life in its hoped-for fullness, practices are imbued with a sense of our relatedness to God, others and the earth. Influencing our dispositions and outlooks on the world, spiritual practices render us more open and responsive to the dynamic activity of God's grace, and move us toward greater spiritual maturity."
