Justice & Sustainability Community Initiatives

Two global issues that are important to Boston College's Jesuit Tradition and the Boston College Neighborhood Center's mission involve issues of justice and sustainability.  Two  initiatives that the Center is engaged in include: Fair Trade & Cleansweep

Fair Trade

In 2005, the Boston College Neighborhood Center partnered with the Volunteer & Service Learning Center at Boston College to establish the Fair Trade Holiday Sale.  The event has become a collaborative effort among concerned administrators and faculty at Boston College  who seek to spread awareness of and access to fairly traded goods and crafts on our campus.  Each year the event has grown and at this year's event in December, eighteen vendors will be selling fairly-traded coffee, chocolate, jewelry, textiles and many other goods from all around the world.  The  Holiday Sale is promoted campus-wide as an alternative to commercial holiday shopping. All profits benefit two school scholarship funds for children in Nicaragua and El Salvador.
