Athletes in Service

Help Educate Through Athletic Responsibility (H.E.A.R.) Program
Each semester Boston College student athletes visit public and parochial elementary schools in Allston-Brighton to mentor children. Athletes act as role models for students in the schools by interacting with, encouraging and motivating children to work hard in school, follow their dreams and never give up.

Food for Families Program
Each month BC student athletes help package and distribute 350 bags of groceries supplied by the Boston Food Bank, to needy families at the Commonwealth Housing Development. are packaged by BC volunteers and distributed by the Commonwealth Tenants Association (CTA) to needy families.

Franciscan Hospital for Children & Children's Hospital
As an offshoot to the HEAR program, each month 30 student athletes from Boston College visit children at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, bringing cheer and sharing stories. Twice year, 40 student athletes visit patients at Children's Hospital in Boston.

Moe Maloney Service Award
This service award was created by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee in 2005, in honor of former Boston College Baseball Coach and current Assistant Director of Boston College Neighborhood Center, Moe Maloney. Each year it awarded to the top male and female athletes in regards to their community service involvement.
