The Jesuit Institute funds visiting lecturers nominated by departments of the University, as these bear upon the purposes of the Institute. These lectures introduce into the University's academic community a diversity of scholars and their research. The Institute also promotes lecture series that explore some problem in depth. Such is the sequence of lectures by Catholic women theologians. For the first time in the history of the Catholic Church in America, women constitute a substantial number of its distinguished theologians.
Now the question arises: Will this unprecedented engagement of women as professional theologians make any significant difference in either the method or the content of theology? With this question in mind, the Jesuit Institute is sponsoring a series of lectures by a number of American Catholic women theologians in such standard disciplines as ecclesiology, spirituality, pneumatology, biblical studies, Trinitarian theology, ethics, sacraments, and Christology. The papers from this series will be published in a single volume.
The Jesuit Institute funds a series of lectures by scholars that deals with basic or current theological topics and is directed at the undergraduate students of Boston College. Topics have included: "What is a Good Catholic?" and "Can a Feminist be a Catholic?".
