Professor Emeritus, Department of English
Interest in the function of narrating voices, both in fiction and in drama, dominated Kristin Morrison's teaching and research for many years, as manifest in her books and articles on writers as diverse as Samuel Beckett , William Trevor, Oscar Wilde, John Banville, Bernard Shaw, Emily Lawless, Bernard MacLaverty.
More recently, after extensive practical experience sailing in Irish and Scottish waters, she has begun to explore how the sea figures in Irish fiction. A few essays related to this topic, which may eventually become a book, have already been published, e.g. "Patrick O'Brian: (Dis)United Irishman at Sea" in Irish Studies Review. She is also developing new interests in contemporary Scottish literature and its parallels to, differences from Irish literature.
