About the Irish Institute:  Working under the auspices of the Center for Irish Programs, the Irish Institute makes use of cross-campus and local resources to facilitate rewarding personal, corporate, and professional educational exchanges with the goal of promoting a more lasting peace on the island of Ireland. The Irish Institute hosts officials and policymakers from Ireland and Northern Ireland for professional development programs in areas such as government, non-profit, business, and education. 

 

Irish Institute Programs:  The Irish Institute hosts professional groups, officials, and policymakers from Ireland and Northern Ireland throughout the year. Program participants meet with their American colleagues in Boston and elsewhere in the United States and often attend seminars at Boston College.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:

Road Safety Program

June 10-20th, 2008 

Boston MA & Washington D.C.

Fourteen individuals (seven from Ireland and seven from Northern Ireland) to include relevant leaders from law enforcement, roads authorities, planning authorities, and civic and community bodies to participate in a ten-day study visit to the United States examining issues such as: road and transportation engineering, operator education and behavior, establishing and enforcing penalties, and establishing continuity in regulation across different jurisdictions. The program is sponsored by the Irish Institute at the Center for Irish Programs, Boston College, and the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  All program-related costs including travel, accommodation, most meals, and tuition are provided.  The program is not open to U.S. citizens, green card holders, or past participants of Irish Institute programs.  Short-listed applicants must be available for interview during the week of 7th April in Dublin or Belfast.  Please note that the program is by necessity highly selective, and that consequently, not all applicants will be interviewed and not all interviewees will be invited to participate.
