Do you have any documents, photographs or recordings that this project needs?
In addition to carrying out interviews and questionnaires to record the fullest possible picture of what the GAA has meant to the Irish people, we are also building up a collection of documents, photographs and recordings relating to the social side of the organisation from 1884 to the present. No item is too recent!
What Are We Looking For?
We are looking for pictures, videos and recordings of the social life around the GAA, whether they are of you and your family having a picnic on the way to or from a match, of spectators at a match, of supporters on the train or bus to a match, of homecoming celebrations and commiserations, or of social events. We are also hoping to collect posters, letters, songs, poems and even prayers relating to the GAA. We would like material relating to social events organised around the GAA, records and minute books from counties and clubs and anything which tells us the stories of the people behind the organisation – the jersey washers, tea makers, stewards, grounds-staff, ticket collectors, bus and car drivers, officials, coaches, managers, backroom teams, committee members, players and supporters.
While we are not actively seeking more recent team photographs and programmes we would like older material showing match action and players in the past, especially from the less well documented sports of Camogie, Ladies Football, Handball and Rounders.

As this project is developing a digital archive, you do not necessarily have to donate your material to us. We are happy to take items on loan for a short time, digitise them and then return them to you. In special circumstances, where items are too fragile to transport, a member of our team can arrange to digitise the material in your home.
