Ministry Practicum Offerings
The Institute offers two ministry practicum opportunities for MDiv students of the School of Theology and Ministry.
Preached Retreat Ministry
Offered over the two-semester academic year, this practicum experience prepares School of Theology and Ministry MDiv students for offering the Spiritual Exercises through the preached retreat ministry. The practicum begins with witnessing a preached retreat at Manresa in Convent, Louisiana, and concludes with the student’s successful creation of a preached retreat delivered at the Jesuit retreat house of Saint Louis, White House.
Spiritual Exercises Retreat in Daily Life
Offered over the course of the two-semester academic year, this three-credit practicum experience prepares students for presenting the Spiritual Exercises to a large group of undergraduate students and for conducting ongoing spiritual direction for individual undergraduate students. Specifically, practicum students meet twice a month with a selected group of up to 25 undergraduate students for a group presentation on a particular theme of the Spiritual Exercises. Each practicum student has the opportunity to present at least twice before the large group, and each presentation is the fruit of workshop preparation with both the director and the other presenters. In the interim weeks, each practicum student and the director meets with four undergraduates for spiritual direction centered upon the experiences of prayer that occurring the retreat.
