Agenda Highlights:
- Brian Nosek, co-principal investigator of Project Implicit and Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, will present a workshop on Implicit Bias: Implications for the Workplace to begin the meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Oftentimes, biases can serve as barriers to women’s advancement, implementing flexibility, facilitating an effective multigenerational workforce, and other aspects of an organization’s climate. Through an interactive workshop, Dr. Nosek will help us understand how these biases occur, how they may influence judgments, processes, and systems, and how we can help to correct these biases within our organizations.
- On Thursday morning, Professors Jay Mulki and Kim Eddleston from Northeastern University will share the results of their new study entitled Work -Family Balance for Remote Workers: A Myth or Reality? This session will focus on the issues and challenges remote workers face, successful coping strategies that the presenters have identified through their research, and recommendations for organizations to help set up remote workers to thrive.
- The remainder of Thursday sessions will focus on Work-Life in the Age of Social Media, beginning with a presentation by Professors Sal Parise and P.J. Guinan from Babson College on the practical and legal implications and strategies for HR professionals in relation to various social media platforms. Following this session, the Social Media Member Showcase will feature best practices from National Roundtable Members in relation to using social media to help foster more efficient communications and collaboration within a dispersed workforce.
- On Friday, Roundtable members will have the opportunity to examine cutting edge research from the latest Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award. Glen Kreiner, Pennsylvania State University, will present Friday morning on his Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award winning article Balancing borders and Bridges: Negotiating the Work-Home Interface via Boundary Work Tactics. This presentation will describe his research on the diversity of successful ways in which people manage transitions between home and work. Following this presentation, Center Fellow Shelley MacDermid Wadsword of Purdue University will discuss takeaways from the 2010 Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award Finalists, focusing on the practical implications of the top research studies in work-life.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: On Thursday, November 3rd beginning at 8:00pm, the Boston College Eagles will be playing the Florida State University Seminoles in a nationally televised football game on Boston College Campus.
