Clough Center Junior Fellows Program

The center seeks to identify and enlist in its Junior Fellows Program students with a strong interest in questions concerning the virtues and limits of constitutional democracy, as practiced in the United States and throughout the world. As junior fellows, students will receive special access to Clough Center events and visiting speakers, and will be invited to participate in junior fellow-only conversations and events throughout the academic year. The fellows will also work together collectively, in consultation with the center director, to set their own agenda for the development of the JFP in the years to come.

To apply to become a junior fellow, interested students should submit to the center director via e-mail at Clough.Center@bc.edu a resume and a one paragraph statement detailing their interest in constitutional democracy.

Clough Center Civic Internships

Consistent with the Center’s mission to support students committed to service to others, this program will provide grants to Boston College undergraduates for what would be otherwise uncompensated work on behalf of government, non-profit, or other civic organizations. Grants may be awarded for work undertaken on either a part time or full time basis over the summer. Students will work through non-Center offices (such as BC’s career services office) to identify and apply for relevant internship positions. Once they have secured such a position, they can then apply to the Clough Center for a financial grant supporting their work.

Students who wish to be named Clough Center Civic Interns should submit to the center director via e-mail at Clough.Center@bc.edu a description of the internship position, the nature of the civic service it provides, the civic skills the student hopes to develop by serving in the position, an assessment of the amount of time they plan to devote to their internship, and a copy of their resume.

Clough Center Undergraduate Research Assistantships

The Clough Center provides financial support to undergraduate who wish to work as research assistants to faculty members doing work in the area of constitutional democracy. Students will approach interested faculty members on their own. The application for undergraduate research assistantship funding will be submitted by the faculty member to the center director at Clough.Center@bc.edu, and will include a statement of the nature of the project, the student’s resume, and the number of hours per week, and the number of weeks, that the student intends to work. Visiting Scholars

The center will host scholars-in-residence, visiting professors, and post-doctoral teachers and researchers. Such visitors will be occasional in the center’s early years. As the Center grows and matures, however, we hope to regularize such positions and make them a consistent feature of the center’s annual program.
